INNOGLY STSM 1st announcement GP4

Dear INNOGLY members, dear colleagues and students,

The 1st call for the Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) within 4th Grant period (GP4) is now open. The purpose of these STSMs can be very diverse – ranging from scientific visits to a collaborating laboratory (e.g., measuring data as part of a joint research project), training visits to learn a new technique (e.g., for students, post-docs and early career investigators, technicians…), coordination visits to a joint research partner to optimize and plan further experiments (e.g., benchmarking), up to testing and evaluating new instruments or developing new methods. Both academic and industrial labs can qualify to host STSMs, so industry-oriented STSMs are welcome as well.

The INNOGLY STSM rules follow the new annotated rules (COST-094-21-Annotated-Rules-for-COST-Actions-Level-C-V1.3.pdf), which are presented on INNOGLY webpage (https://innogly.eu/).

There are 2 planned deadlines for the STSMs calls within GP4:

    • First STSM/ITC Deadline: 3rd March.
    • Second STSM/ITC Deadline: 12th April.

The GP4 finishes on 7th October 2023, so that the STSMs must be completed preferably by August 15 2023 and at latest August 31 2023 to be reimbursed in the GP4 budget, as defined by the COST STSM rules:

  • They should preferably have a minimum duration of 5 calendar days that includes travel. Although the minimum duration is not defined by the new annotated rules, Innogly STSM committee agrees that shorter visits do not allow substantial research to be performed, but rather just a visit to the foreign laboratory. This is why middle-term visits over 3 weeks are encouraged.
  • STSM need to be carried out in their entirety within a single Grant Period and always within the

Action’s lifetime.

Please bear in mind that:

  • STSM Grants do not necessarily cover all expenses related to undertaking a given mission; an STSM Grant is a contribution to the overall travel, accommodation and meal expenses of the Grantee,
  • Up to a maximum of EUR 4.000 in total can be afforded to each successful applicant, and
  • A maximum daily allowance for accommodation and meal expenses is defined by the daily allowance rates applicable to COST travel expenses for meetings:  Yet, the STSM committee may lower the daily allowances to allow as much STSMs as possible within the given budget.

To ease the calculations, we offer 2 showcases on how to calculate STSM budget.

CASE 1

if an Applicant proposes an STSM to be performed in France lasting 14 days we would have

300 EUR for travel (flight expenses) (or a different amount chosen by the applicant)

and

195 EUR per day in France for a total of 195*14 days = 2590 EUR

TOTAL GRANT APROVED: 2890 EUR

CASE 2

If an Applicant proposes an STSM to be performed in France lasting 30 days we would have

300 EUR for travel (flight expenses) (or a different amount chosen by the applicant)

and

3700 EUR maximum for accommodation and meals (123 EUR per days), because the applicant cannot exceed the overall sum of 4.000 EUR.

TOTAL GRANT APROVED: 4.000 EUR

All details about proposal preparation and submission can be found within STSM subsection of our website: https://www.cost.eu/cost-actions/cost-actions-networking-tools, https://www.cost.eu/actions/CA18103/ , and the Guidelines for Individual Grants available here: https://www.cost.eu/uploads/2021/12/Grant-Awarding-userguide.pdf.
